It's Hot. Watch Out For Those at Risk
Heat-related deaths are a reality in the Dallas area summer heat. Intense heat and dehydration are critical factors. If you know someone who doesn't have and can't afford an air conditioner, call 214.819.6001 to request one from Dallas County Health and Human Services.
If you can't pay your electricity bill, call your provider (the number is on your electric bill) and ask for a payment plan or other arrangements.
Air-conditioned City buildings such as the Library and the Recreation Center are good places to stay cool during the day.
Watering Restrictions May 1 - Sept. 30
Conserving and protecting water resources has become a major issue throughout Texas and much of the U.S. Local reservoirs are below normal levels and the population of the metroplex continues to grow.
The City of Cedar Hill depends on Dallas Water Utilities for our city water supply. DWU has requested all client cities to develop water conservation plans including contingencies for more severe levels of drought.
Watering restrictions contained in City of Cedar Hill Ordinance 2008-370 request no outdoor watering from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. between May 1 and September 30.
Should the City declare a State II status, violators may be fined. A first offense can be up to $200 and fines for repeated offenses can reach $2,000 per day of violation.
Specific questions can be directed to Josh McLerran, City of Cedar Hill Environmental Projects Coordinator at 972.291.5126 ext. 2818. The Public Works Department has collected several pages of information available at the following link. [Additional info...]
Recycle Every Wednesday
Can you believe what recycling has done for Cedar Hill?

Since January, the citizens of Cedar Hill have recycled over 1,750 tons of recyclable materials, diverted 5,300 cubic yards of waste from the landfill and saved approximately 30,000 trees. Every citizen who recycles is making a big difference, but the fact is that only about 34% of Cedar Hill citizens recycle. If we could get the rest of the population to start recycling, just think of what a difference we could make in our City and the environment.

Recycling is easy! No sorting is necessary and Waste Management will pick it up right in front of your house (or alley). Citizens are not charged any more for this service and much of what you put in the trash can be recycled.

Recycleable items include, but are not limited to: glass and plastic bottles, aluminum and steel food and beverage cans, cardboard and junk mail, cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, newspapers and magazines, aerosol cans, as well as emptied and rinsed out detergent bottles.

Items that can not be recycled are: styrofoam, pizza boxes, aluminum foil, light bulbs, plastic grocery bags, and ceramic containers and dishes.

As a reminder, all residential recycling is picked up on Wednesdays. Should you have any questions, please refer to the City's website for updates or call 972.291.5100 ext. 1007.

Waste Watch
Waste Management has provided it's drivers with special training to spot and report anything suspicious or dangerous to their dispatcher or directly to 9-1-1. Waste Management drivers travel our community's roads at all hours. They will report such events as vehicle crashes, fires, road hazards and suspicious activities. Their drivers will act as another pair of eyes and ears to our local law enforcement.
