Find out what's happening in the city. Below is a list of current news releases.
This project began Monday, March 1. It will take several days, maybe over a week to reach all streets in Cedar Hill. If there is a vehicle parked in front of the brush when the truck comes by, brush will not be picked up and no re-visits will be scheduled. Residents will have to figure out a way to get their material picked up in the regular monthly brush pickup. Since the snow storm debris far exceeded the amount that the City's vendor, Waste Management, contracted to pick up in the monthly pickups, they had to hire a contractor with specialized equipment designed for storm debris to cover every residential street in the city. This process started March 1 and will continue until the whole city has been served. The monthly brush pickups, which will resume on March 9, 2010, will continue to pick up amounts up to 10 cubic yards. The City is covering the approximately $100,000 cost of the special pick up with funds from a beautification/landscaping budget. Commercial accounts should not place limbs at the street, but call Waste Management at 972.842.5807. Burning brush within the city limits is unlawful, subject to a fine up to $264. The Cedar Hill Police Department is proud to host the 2010 United States Police Canine Association Region 20 Field Trials March 15th – March 19th. The United States Police Canine Association is a national organization that allows police canine officers to bring their canines before a panel of U.S.P.C.A. judges and certify in narcotics detection, agility, obedience, article search, tracking, suspect search and criminal apprehension. The field trials are an annual event that draws 20-40 police canine teams from across North Texas. On March 17th and March 18th between 1 pm and 6 pm the public is invited to come out to Trinity High School Stadium located at 1231 East Pleasant Run Road in Cedar Hill to watch officers and their canines certify and compete. Local businesses and individual donations are covering the costs for this event so that no City funds are being spent. Thanks to Scout troop #1 for construction and painting of the K-9 obstacles used in the trials. [Additional info...]
