Drought Response Stages

Current Drought Response Stage:

Please note that the City of Cedar Hill Ordinance 2008-370 bans outdoor watering on any day of the week between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. from May 1 through September 30.

The City requests that no watering be done on Wednesdays, Saturdays or Sundays so that the system can replenish water supplies in the water storage tanks for availability during peak demand. This saves the citizens' money, because it reduces the need to purchase additional water from Dallas Water Utilities to meet peak demand.

There are three Drought Response Stages that may be instituted by the City Manager.

Stage 1 is voluntary. Stages  2 and 3 are mandatory.

STAGE 1 (Voluntary)

The City of Cedar Hill requests that no outdoor watering take place on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at any time.

Even numbered addresses (example: 502 S. Cedar St.) may water after 6:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays

Odd numbered addresses (example: 285 Uptown Blvd.)  may water after 6:00 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays.

For example:  If you have an even numbered address and it's Tuesday, you may water between 12:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning and then again between 6:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. Tuesday night

If you have an odd numbered address and it's Monday, you may water between 12:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Monday morning and then again between 6:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. Monday night

However, feel free to water your outdoor plants from a hand held container at any time so that not a single drop is wasted or evaporated by the heat before it hits the ground. We also ask that foundations be watered with soaker hoses and vehicle washing occur on the lawn from a bucket or at a commercial carwash.

STAGE 2 (Mandatory)

When Stage 2 is activated, there are only two differences from Stage 1:

  1. The requests listed in Stage 1 are now required and are no longer voluntary.
  2. You may only wash your vehicle at a commercial carwash, not at home. You may still water your plants from a hand held container and use soaker hoses around your home's foundation at any time.

STAGE 3 (Mandatory)

This stage will be activated only in the event of a water crisis. If activated, it requires that no outdoor watering take place at any time, day or night. You may continue to use a soaker hose around the foundation, and wash your vehicle at a commercial carwash. Commercial water users may also be required to reduce their water usage, depending on severity of the water shortage. All non-essential uses of water are prohibited during Stage 3.
